The BeNeLux Chamber of Commerce Holds a Seminar on Sanctions Compliance and Its Impact on Kazakhstan

Almaty, 16 October 2025. — The BeNeLux Chamber of Commerce in Kazakhstan, together with Rödl & Partner and KIMEP University, successfully held a hybrid seminar on "Sanctions Compliance: Impact on Kazakhstan and Practical Case Studies."

The event brought together around 100 participants, including 80 companies joining online, as well as distinguished guests attending in person at KIMEP University in Almaty, among them the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belgium to Kazakhstan, Mr Erik De Maeyer.

The seminar's aim was to give businesses practical tools for operating amid growing sanctions pressure and evolving compliance regimes that directly affect international companies operating in and with Kazakhstan.

The keynote presentations were delivered by Mr Michael Quiring, partner at Rödl & Partner, and Dr Tatyana Vukolova, associate partner at the firm. The experts gave an overview of the current EU and US sanctions agenda, examined complex case studies, and stressed that effective compliance is an integral part of corporate governance and sustainable business.

Ms Ainur Abdina, General Director of Spaarmann Kazakhstan, presented practical examples from import and export operations from a customs regulation perspective and highlighted the importance of transparency and proper documentation in logistics.

Mr Maxim Ananyev, Chief Legal Counsel at IGK Credit Management Group, spoke about the risks of fraud and sanctions violations, as well as strategies for preventing such cases through corporate compliance procedures and counterparty due diligence.

The seminar concluded with a group photo and informal conversation over coffee, giving participants the opportunity to exchange experience and strengthen ties between the business communities of BeNeLux and Kazakhstan.

The BeNeLux Chamber of Commerce in Kazakhstan, founded in 2021, continues its mission of strengthening responsible business cooperation, promoting a culture of compliance, and building sustainable partnerships between Kazakhstan and the BeNeLux countries — Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
