Representatives of the Institute of Radioelements (IRE, Belgium)
On 7–10 February 2023, representatives of the Institute of Radioelements (IRE, Belgium) came to Almaty on a working visit at the invitation of the Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP) of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan. The purpose of the visit was to expand opportunities for developing nuclear physics and medicine through cooperation and by further strengthening bilateral relations. It should be noted that the first meeting between the INP and IRE took place in Belgium in late August 2022, with the assistance of the Wallonia Export and Foreign Investment Agency (AWEX).
The two sides discussed isotope production standards, the scientific and technical aspects of radiochemistry and isotope production, and issues related to safety, protection and radiation-protection programmes in the context of nuclear medicine. As part of the visit, the IRE team also had the opportunity to visit the Trade and Economic Representation of the Kingdom of Belgium, AWEX Almaty, where they expressed their gratitude for the support provided.
IRE's contribution to securing the future development of the sector in the country is undoubtedly significant, given that as a public-benefit institution it has a considerable impact on Belgium's pharmaceutical and nuclear industries.
