Almaty Airport and Belgium's Proviron to set up aircraft de-icing fluid production in Kazakhstan
Almaty International Airport has signed a trilateral agreement with Belgian chemical company Proviron and a Kazakh partner to localise production in Kazakhstan of Type I de-icing fluid — the fluid used to treat aircraft before departure in cold weather. The document, the airport's press service reports, was signed by Göker Köse, President of Almaty International Airport, together with representatives of Proviron and the Kazakh side, Kazakhstan Today writes.
The agreement was signed on 13 October in Astana at the 4th session of the Kazakhstan-Belgium Business Council, attended by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and King Philippe of the Belgians. The Council's opening remarks were delivered by Denis Van den Weghe, President of the BeNeLux Chamber of Commerce, who also chairs the Kazakhstan-Belgium Business Council. On that day, Belgian and Kazakh companies signed 16 documents, with Proviron among the signatories.
Proviron is a Belgian chemical company whose portfolio includes products for aircraft de-icing. According to the airport's press service, domestic production of Type I fluid in Kazakhstan is expected to reduce the country's airports' reliance on imports and secure the materials they need during winter. The statement does not specify where production will be located, its planned volume, or a launch date.
Why this matters for Chamber members. The agreement is an example of Belgium-Kazakhstan cooperation moving beyond supplying finished goods: instead of importing the reagent, the Belgian company is shifting part of its production to Kazakhstan. For BeNeLux businesses, it's a further sign that the Kazakh market is open not just to sales but to localising the production of specialised chemical goods.
