Dutch Support to Help Improve Air Quality in Almaty
This emerged at a seminar dedicated to Earth observation using satellite navigation systems. It concerns monitoring pollution in Almaty using advanced space technology.
This will become possible through cooperation between a company within the Nevasco group (Netherlands) and the Almaty city akimat.
Company representative Edo Lonen said their technology can identify sources of pollution, and air quality can be monitored every hour.
The Dutch make wide use of satellite technology across many sectors: in the oil and gas industry, for example, it can be used to detect methane leaks from pipelines, while in agriculture it can be used to forecast water consumption and crop yields. According to Nevasco Vice-President Rob Beck, there are no borders in space. The Dutch make extensive use of American, Japanese, European and even Algerian satellites.
Nevasco comprises eight companies with sufficient experience to tackle a wide range of tasks. It is very important for us to strengthen our business partnership with Kazakhstan,
— said Ambassador of the Netherlands to Kazakhstan André Carstens.
The event was organised by the BeNeLux Chamber of Commerce.
The BeNeLux Chamber of Commerce was founded a year ago. The countries of this region (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg — ed.) are currently among the key investors in Kazakhstan,
— noted the Chamber's General Director, Nurbek Yergeshbayev.
