II meeting of the Kazakhstan – Belgium Business Council

May 29, 2024 – Almaty, Kazakhstan – The second meeting of the Kazakhstan-Belgium Business Council was held in Almaty, co-chaired by the International Chamber of Commerce of Kazakhstan and the BeNeLux Chamber of Commerce. This event was part of the Belgian Trade Mission, which visited Kazakhstan from May 29 to 31, 2024.

The event attracted over 70 participants, including representatives from the official and business sectors of both countries. Participants engaged in productive B2G and B2B meetings, discussing current issues and business opportunities in Kazakhstan.

The meeting opened with welcome speeches by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Kazakhstan, Henri Vantieghem, and the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Kingdom of Belgium, Margulan Baimukhan. Leaders of the chambers of commerce and representatives from the Wallonia Export and Foreign Investment Agency (AWEX) also shared their perspectives on the prospects for bilateral cooperation.

The main part of the event featured thematic presentations highlighting business opportunities, Kazakhstan's investment potential, climate initiatives, and other key topics. Speakers included representatives from organizations such as JSC "National Managing Holding Baiterek," the Belgian export credit agency Credendo, "Almaty Business Development Company," and Orfit Industries.

During the Business Council meeting, the President of the BeNeLux Chamber of Commerce in Kazakhstan, Denis Van den Weghe, remarked, "Throughout our period of mutual cooperation, Belgium and Kazakhstan have strengthened a solid partnership characterized by dynamic trade relations and investment flows. Over the past 30 years, Belgium has become a key trading partner for Kazakhstan within the European Union and an important source of investment and new technologies. From 2005 to 2023, Belgian direct investments reached 11 billion euros, making it the sixth-largest investor in Kazakhstan. Today, more than 75 enterprises with Belgian capital operate in various sectors, including energy, mining, transportation, and logistics, significantly contributing to Kazakhstan's economic growth and development."

The event concluded with a ceremony for signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the BeNeLux Chamber of Commerce and the Central Asia Climate Foundation. This document aims to jointly promote green initiatives and climate change-related projects.

The BeNeLux Chamber of Commerce also organized B2B sessions between the Belgian delegation and representatives of the Kazakh business community, providing participants with a unique opportunity to establish new business contacts and discuss promising projects.

Notably, the inaugural meeting of the Business Council was held on June 5, 2023, in Astana, setting the stage for ongoing productive collaboration.
